Happy New Year!!

Happy New Year my lovely peeps! Hope 2014 is a good one for all!! Started the year enjoying the pyrotechnics of London 🙂 first time being there and I was pretty impressed, it did not disappoint!

Good way to start the year! Feeling positive and today recharged my battery by sleeping in and getting sone beauty sleep! 🙂 So nice and calm one for New Year’s Day 🙂

Merry Christmas peeps!!

Hiya! Hope everyone had an amzong Christmas! 

I had an excellent and relaxing time.  Even made this lovely meal for myself 🙂

As it was for one, I went for a 2kg leg of lamb rather than a traditional Christmas turkey but I had all the trimmings (a must!)

Been a crazy few months and as mentioned before London time is much faster and as you see it is close to the end of 2013.  It has been an interesting year…alot of ups and downs but looking forward to 2014!:)

oh where has the month gone?!

Just released it has been nearly a month since I last wrote on my blog!! My how time flies!

First of all, my apologies, it has been just as crazy…although this time it has mainly been work related resulting in my lack of energy to post anything on my blog!

So…past month…I have seen a book, two musicals, a concert, a gig, 2 seasons of a TV show and 4 movies!…and yes, I have had very little sleep in the process!

Going to review everything in this post except for the movies:-

Musicals:-

The bodyguard: Actually not bad at all but that was more to do with the songs (no one can beat Whitney Houston singing those songs though)…acting was pretty wooden but really enjoyed it in the end.  Worth a visit to check it out.

Dirty dancing: The bodyguard was better despite the acting being better in this one for some reason.  Maybe it was because I never really gotten into the movie too…I like one or two songs from it but it was never really up there…so maybe for someone who is a massive fan of Dirty dancing the movie would enjoy this more than me.  One thing I did get out of watching this was that I have a new found respect for Patrick Swayze.  I never rated him much of an actor before but he was way better as the lead than this dude on stage.

Concert:-

Jayz and guests! – This one was awesome!! He sang some of his previous songs which I was over the moon about!! I was gutted that I had missed him perform those songs and I am not a massive fan of his new album but now I can tick that off my list!! The songs in the new album also sounded alot better live!!  Everything is better live!! His other guests were Timbaland and I manage to be the night Chris Martin decided to make an appearance…all and all…an awesome night (even if I am not a fan of Chris Martin!) Took me a while to figure out who it was and then even longer to figure out whether he was touring with Jayz or just there for one night only.  He was there for one night only folks!! 🙂 O2 arena is pretty cool area to hold a concert and especially when the whole audience was into the music….it was an amazing atmosphere! 🙂

Gig:-

A friend of mine had some spare tickets to go and see an up and coming band called We were Evergreen.  They were not bad at all and enjoyed my night out…The band just released their first album and I think this gig was their launch of their album.  There was about 100 odd people in a small space so it was pretty intimate affair.  Have a search on youtube for them, they are pretty cool and I like their video of their song “Penguins and Moonboots!” 🙂

2 seasons of Game of Thrones:-

Now I know I am REALLY behind on this one…partly due to my lack of time to watch TV anymore and also to get hold of the show to watch it.  Now, you have to understand one thing about me…I can get quite into my TV shows so I pretty much watched the 2 seasons in 3 evenings/morning (as I was up until 4am!) SO surprised by season 1’s twist (I think I might be the only one in the world that didn’t know it happened!!Won’t spoil it for you guys…go and watch it!)…I would have easily gone through season 3 but it didn’t work so now I have to wait before I get to watch that season!! I do have all of Breaking Bad to watch which I believe would be another addictive show!  Planning to watch that one over the festive period! 🙂

Book:-

Fallen by Lauren Kate – This was right down my alley…abit of angels and demons storyline…read that one quite quickly but I had to read it on the tube as I do not have time to just have a good sitting to read these days so 20mins in the morning and 20mins back a day is all I have to read! :s Anyways, there were other books after it but due to my TV obsession, I have finally braved it and started reading the first book of the Game of Thrones series…the titles does appeal to me but it is over 800 pages long!!!…Just over 200 pages so far…it’s an epic one!! Might jump back to Lauren Kate’s second book after this first one…need a smaller one so it feels more manageable!

Right so that’s you pretty much up to date with my various reviews apart from the movies and this has taken over an hour to type so I’m pretty tired now so the movie reviews just have to wait!!  Oh! I was also at the Royal Horseguard hotel for a taster menu…worth a try.  My friend for the vouchers so we went to check out the menu.  If you are not a picky eater then a taster menu would be awesome!! Definitely worth checking it out if you are around London…doesn’t even have to be this one but you should check out taster menus…the portion looks smaller but there are 5 plates and by the end of it, you are pretty full.

Movie Review: About time

Maybe I have seen more than I thought! haha
This one I actually was excited to watch! Bill Nighy does have excellent timing…that man can change the way a sentence is meant by the way he says it…it is funny to watch and very enjoyable.

I do like Richard Curtis movies, the man knows what to put in a chick flick! I think I prefer Notting hill but the storyline sucked me right in! It left me with that nice warm fuzzy feeling inside which is probably my measure whether a chick flick was good so definitely got a tick in that department because I was literially glowing as I head home! (people beside me was probably wondering why I was smiling to myself!!)

The two main characters are likeable and it’s not too hard to follow but leaves you feeling reflective

I give this one a 8 out 10…such a sweet movie!:) x

 

Movie Review: R.I.P.D 3D

definitely running out of stuff to watch as I haven’t been to the cinema that much recently as I have been a busy bunny but was lacking in choices…anyways, R.I.P.D wasn’t too bad…kind of remind me of Men in Black…quite funny and the pairing kind of worked…definitely didn’t dislike them…but not sure if I prefer the Tommy Lee Jones/Will Smith pairing…

A very basic storyline that follows alot of the other similar kind of movies…so nothing special but watchable is probably the best way to describe it!

I give it a 6 out of 10 x

 

Movie Review: Riddick

Now I did like the previous movies of Riddick hence why I decided to watch this one…to be honest,  really didn’t need to make another one…the last one ended rather well…sadly, I think this one was made purely for profit reasons and not for the benefit of the franchise.

There was a moment in the movie which reminded me of Shaggy and Scooby doo!!…all I can say is that it should not happen!…so the fact that popped in my mind during the movie, well you get the picture..cartoons shouldn’t be aligning with this kind of movie.

There were some funny bits but not enough for me to call this a good movie sadly…I actually wanted to like it but I can’t

I give this one a 5 out of 10…please stop making the franchise before it turns into a joke…like Police Academy! x

 

Song of the day: 23/09/13

The more I hear Billy Joel’s list of songs, the more I am impressed with the man…that dude has written some awesome songs! Usually I hear someone doing a cover and then I find out it was originally his…but today’s one I heard on the radio and it was him singing this…absolutely besotted with song and it has been on repeat quite alot already! I tend to over listen to a good song and then stop but go back to the song 6 months or so and see if I still like it…have to say (just because I did felt this song) there is a good chance that this one is going to my permanent favourite music collection! It’s been awhile since I have added to my list so very happy about it…also it does seem right to add one of Billy Joel’s song since I have been impressed by his song writing skills…not alot of people can repeated impressed me so hats off to Billy Joel!

Nice people in the world

I had the most amazing thing happen to me the other week.  I had lost my Oyster card with a cover that I really liked and the Oyster card was a limited edition one that I got from last year.  I dropped it on the way back from seeing my parents and thought I would never got it back as I heard nothing back despite having my address and mobile number inside the cover.  I genuinely thought I would not get them back.  Then one night, I came home to find that someone found my oyster card and had sent it back to me!! I was SO happy!! There are nice people in the world after all!!  That really made my day!

On another note of nice people; my dear friend is moving to Australia soon and I made a surprise trip back up to Scotland to say my goodbyes to her.  It was literally a flying visit as I grab the train back up on Saturday and returned on Sunday…absolutely shattered now but it was worth it to see my friend’s reaction. 🙂  My friend is Polish so we all ended up drinking shots of vodka (as you do!) and I haven’t been so drunk since last year!…memory blanks, drunk texts, the works…a little embarrassed right now (i.e. I would like the world to swallow me whole if the truth be known!!  Hoping to get over it by the end of the year!!) and my kidneys are still sore from all the alcohol…my liver already hates me!   I feel knackered still…it’s going to be a looong week! :s

I have been SO good with drunk texting for the past wee while too, I blame my friend who also participated in the drunk texting with my phone!must remind my friends to not let me text when I get that bad…to be honest, it is not a daily occurrance that I get THIS bad!

I found pictures of my friend’s cat on my phone too…must have been chasing the poor thing around with my camera!haha Other things to note: I repeat myself apparently when I am drunk but very effective in the sense that I managed to take my contacts out and take my make up and got dressed into my pjs despite not having any recollection of it!!haha

It was a good weekend and I am sorry to see my friend go but hopefully I will manage to make a trip to see her one day! 🙂

Better head to bed, I am knackered! Hope I feel better for tomorrow! :s wish me luck!!x

 

Movie Review: The Mortal instruments – city of bones

I have never heard of these books before…probably because these are for young adults but like I said before, I love this kinda storyline so I was naturally drawn to go and watch this one.

Some jumpy moments in here but some funny lines that numbed down the seriousness of this movie and kept it fairly light hearted for me.  Lily Collins was pretty good in this one and her hair sat perfectly! (go figure!) It did make me wonder about the books so I might actually buy one to read and see how it goes…I do have other books I am still needing to read and I am still going through my current one not too sure when I will get around to reading it but any movie that made me interested in the book will get some brownie points.

The movie is over 2hrs long but I actually didn’t notice the time fly…always a good indicator that this is a good movie

I give it a 7 out of 10…the lines in the movie is no Shakespeare but keeps your attention long enough for me to like the movie and looking forward to the next one! 🙂 x

 

Movie Review: Sharknado

Yes, it is what you think…Sharks in a tornado! It was on TV one night and may I say, I have not seen such hilarious movie in my life…I was in stitches!…now let see where to begin…

Acting: oh so bad! Although that could be because of the crappy lines given to them…some crackers I tell you, had me almost in tears because it was SO bad.

Special effects: I think they went back in time to make the special effects because the movie Jaws had better effects and that one had plastic sharks in a bath tub scenes! You get the picture!

Storyline: Sharks being chucked out of a tornado and attacking people…pleaseeee!…and don’t even get me started on the ending!!

Despite all this, I do think you should watch this…just to see how movies should not be made…I would class it as comedy for sure but I think when they made it, they were taking it serious…oops.

I give in a funny 6 out of 10…purely because I laughed so much…I know there are low budget D list movies…but this one takes it to a whole new alphabet!!x
